I didn’t get around to posting last night, because we went out to celebrate my Mammy’s 88th birthday. I’ve mentioned this before, but she is battling lung and liver cancer.
Every day is a gift. Remember that! I have trouble with that sometimes. I let little thing totally ruin my day. What a waste of time! Whatever you do today, make sure you appreciate it. I’m going to be silly with my third graders (per usual), hug my baby a bunch (also a common occurrence), and try to be nice to Ryne even if he doesn’t want to wash the dishes (rarely happens). 😉
Instead of finally getting around to some things I need to post about, I’m just going to answer simple questions. It’s definitely one of those mornings. I have no extra brain power to spare. I can’t remember where I first saw this survey, but I know Maddy recently filled it out. If you need a daily dose of cute, you need to head over to her blog. Her daughter, Em, is the cutest.
10 Running Tidbits
1. FUEL: Shot Bloks, GU, Energy Chews, Candy or Other?
I have to be honest, I rarely use any type of fuel during runs. I might grab something to take along with me if I’m getting into the double digits. That hasn’t happened for a while. That being said, I usually go for GU. Gels are pretty much a love ’em or leave ’em type thing. I just find it so much easier to slurp something down than to chew. Lazy? Maybe. I’ll use anything, though, really. I have an iron gut. I don’t usually have to think much about what I eat or drink before, during, or after a workout. I can switch it up without repercussions. Aaand I probably just jinxed myself.
2. Race Length: 5K, 10K, 1/2 Marathon, Marathon, Ultra or Other?
I’ve only ever run one half, but I can already tell they are my favorite. Anything much shorter than that and I feel really pressured to get a good time. 5k’s are a constant sprint! While that can be fun, too, I really like the mental aspect of longer runs. I’d love to try to run a marathon one day. Who’s in? I’ll need help!
3. Workout Bottoms: Skirts, Running Shorts, Capris, Pants, or Other?
Shorts all the way. I’m actually looking for some new shorts, so let me know what your favorites are. I also love my Nike capris for “cold” days. It never really gets cold enough around here to need much more than that on my legs. As long as my ears are warm, I’m good to go.
4. Sports Drink: Gatorade, Powerade, Cytomax, you stick to water when you run or Other?
For now, I usually just stick to water. When my runs start getting a little longer or faster, I’ll switch to some Cytomax. I love that stuff. For races, I definitely prefer it to Gatorade or Powerade.
5. Running temperatures: HOT or COLD?
HOT. I don’t care if I can barely breathe, am covered in sweat, and look like a mess. I’d rather be hot than cold any day.
6. Running Shoe Brands: Saucony, Mizuno, Nike, Brooks, Asics, or Other?
I’m pretty loyal to Nike Frees. I branched out and got some new Nikes with a little more padding a while ago and immediately switched back. I’m definitely starting to find that for me, less is more.
7. Pre-Race Meal: Oatmeal. Bagel, Banana, Eggs, Cereal or Other?
Toast (or oatmeal) with peanut butter, honey, cinnamon, banana, and chia seeds. It’s so easy. If I don’t have all that with me, I’ll eat anything. Seriously. I told you I don’t worry too much! The one constant? Coffee.
8. Rest Days: 1x per week, 2x per week, never ever ever or Other?
Right now? I’m not going to answer that. Almost every day is a rest day. I’m ready to form a more predictable schedule for running. Ryne and I have talked about having specific days for each of us to have the afternoons free from baby duty. I think we’ll implement that soon!
9. Music: Have to have it or go without it?
If you would have asked me before I had Maddux, I definitely would have said that I had to have music. Now I can run without any. My last two runs and one race were music free. I think I appreciate silence a little bit more now. 😉
10. #1 reason for running: stress-relief, endorphins, you love to race, so you can eat all the cupcakes you want, weight-loss, love running for social reasons or other?
Before baby? For fun and for bikinis. Hey, at least I’m honest! Now? For fun and some free time! It’s the only time I can really justify in my mind for relinquishing all duties. It definitely lets me clear my head and start fresh when I come back inside. It makes me a happier wife and mom, I’m sure of it!
What about you? Music or no music? What type of fuel? I love hearing about other people’s running quirks!
