36 weeks down, and only 4 more to go! Four weeks doesn’t seem like much, but I have a feeling it is really going to drag. I’ll be on summer break, so I won’t have my classroom and students to keep me occupied. Maybe I’ll actually start blogging again. Either that or I’ll lay by the pool all day. Hmm, tough call. 😉 Seriously though, I’m getting really antsy. I know he needs to stay in there for a while longer, but I’m so ready to see his face. I’m not as excited for the process that will bring him into the world, though. I’m sure it will be worth it, but I doubt it’s going to be a walk in the park, ya know?
What is baby up to? According to MSN Health, “The wrinkly, tiny fetus you may have seen on earlier ultrasounds has given way to an almost plump baby. There is fat on your baby’s cheeks, and powerful sucking muscles also contribute to your baby’s full face. Your baby now weighs a little under 6 pounds. The bones that make up your baby’s skull can move relative to one another and overlap each other while your baby’s head is inside your pelvis. This phenomenon is called molding, and it helps the baby pass through the birth canal. Don’t be surprised if your baby arrives with a pointy or misshapen head! After a few hours or days, your baby’s head will be back to a rounded shape.”
Total Weight Gain: I’ll know for sure tomorrow after our doctor’s appointment. Probably around 36 pounds!
My Body: I’m still feeling large and in charge. A new symptom this week: burning under my rib cage and down my back. It seriously feels like rug burn inside my body. Not exactly cool. My bellybutton has also changed a bit. It’s now more flat than anything else. No longer a true “innie”. I’m wondering if it will pop out… that just seems funny to me. Still no new lines, marks, or other changes like that, though. I’m hoping my skin can hold out for another four weeks. I feel like if I were to get true stretch marks now it would feel like a sucker punch. My body has definitely tricked me into thinking I may not get them after all. I hope it’s not just screwing around with me! Overall, I can’t complain too much. So far, so good. Let’s just hope I’m still smiling in a few weeks!
Maternity Clothes: Nothing new to report here. Hopefully I don’t grow too much more in these next few weeks!
Cravings: Anything cold or frozen. I’m still munching away on crushed ice… hope I’m not absolutely ruining my teeth. Side note: I cannot wait to get back into the dentist. I actually like going. Is that weird? I missed my regular appointment because of this pregnancy and I’m ready to reschedule it.
Sleep: I didn’t think it was possible, but it’s gotten worse! My bladder is as reliable as a clock right now. I know exactly what times I wake up each night. It is so bizarre. The burning I mentioned earlier also gets worse at night… along with the heart burn. God must be preparing me for life with a newborn, because I’m definitely learning to live off of almost no sleep.
