We are currently experimenting with a little nap training in our household, so I need to do something to distract myself. Christmas Survey to the rescue! I’ve probably seen this (or versions of this) survey about a million times (give or take a few) in the past week, but I’m finally getting around to filling it out myself. I always feel like I’m back on MySpace when I fill one of these bad boys out.
Christmas Survey ’12
1. Favorite Christmas Album/CD/Song?
You cannot go wrong with Mariah Carey, Boyz II Men, or the Chipmunks. However, I really love this song:
2. Run on Christmas morning or take the day off?
I really, really should. However, we have two breakfasts to make it to that morning, so getting up and out the door will be the first priority. It really depends on ol’ Maddog’s schedule. If he lets me sleep in, I’m sleeping in. I gotta get sleep when I can. The fact that I’m saying that means he’ll probably be wide awake and I’ll get my run in. We shall see!
3. What do you usually eat on Christmas morning?
We always eat breakfast with my mom’s side of the family. Scrambled eggs, bacon, grits, biscuits and gravy, and cinnamon rolls are all on the menu. I know I’m leaving something off of the list, but I seriously can’t remember. Oh, and coffee! 9 times out of 10 there is Baileys hiding in there somewhere.
4. Favorite holiday or Christmas tradition?
Putting up our tree will always top the list. My mom would separate our ornaments out on our respective couches (yes, everything had to be separate for my sister and me). We would take turns finding the perfect spots for each of our yearly ornaments. Which brings me to my other favorite tradition: yearly ornaments. My sister and I each have gotten to choose a new ornament for every Christmas from Christmas Made in the South. My mom still gets them for us now. She bought several for Maddux this year. Apparently, he is the most important member of our family. One tradition that I miss is making cookies for Santa with all of my cousins on my dad’s side of the family. Last year was the first year we didn’t do it. Maybe we’ll start back up now that Maddux will believe in the fat dude.
5. Real tree, fake tree or no tree?
I am fake all the way. Sorry. They don’t “shed”, they are much safer, and you don’t have to rush around searching for the perfect tree. I know, I’m such a Grinch. This is the first year Ryne has had a fake tree, but I think he’s coming around to the idea. We actually found an amazing fake tree, but I had to work hard to get it. I kinda love it a lot. Plus, I just have to light a Balsam candle and it seems legit enough to me. Win, win.
6. Christmas pajamas… yay or nay?
I haven’t had a pair of real pajamas of any kind in a long time. I really like getting a yearly pair for us as a family, though. Maybe we’ll start that next year. I know it’s cheesy, but I just can’t help myself.
7. Where do you spend the holidays? Your own house, your parents’ house, extended family, in-laws, friends?
We live within 30 minutes of both of our families. We are so lucky that we don’t have to choose who to visit. Tonight (Christmas Eve), we will visit Ryne’s parents and then head to my Memaw and Pop Pop’s. Tomorrow, we will eat breakfast at my aunt’s. We usually eat at my Mammy’s, but she hasn’t been feeling well. Then we’ll have brunch at Ryne’s parents’ house. Then we’ll have Christmas dinner back at my Memaw and Pop Pop’s. Crazy, right?
8. Food that you always have during the holiday season? Favorite Christmas food/treat?
Sounds weird, but the foods that I always eat on Christmas Eve are olives, baby pickles, and shrimp cocktail. My Memaw always just fills a huge table with party food instead of a sit down dinner. It’s so much more fun that way! Breakfast ALWAYS includes cinnamon rolls.
9. Open presents all at once or take turns?
At my parents’, everyone opens all of their presents all at once. At Ryne’s parents’ and my Mammy’s, we take turns but open all of yours at once in the rotation. At my Memaw’s, everyone opens one at a time and takes turns, starting with the youngest. I guess that means Maddux goes first this year. I don’t know how the cousins will feel about that. 😉
10. Favorite Christmas(ish) movie?
Love Actually and Elf are my favorite new movies, but Ryne and I still love Home Alone and Jingle All the Way!
Hope y’all have a great day and a merry Christmas Eve! 🙂
