Happy National Running Day!
I know a lot of people are talking about their love of running, what it means to be a runner, and other fun stuff today in honor of the holiday. They’ve all also probably shared the details of some amazing running experience they had today.
Not me. I didn’t even lace up my running shoes. Does that mean I don’t love to run? Nope. Does that mean I’m not a runner? Of course not. It means I’ve found what works for me.
There was a time where skipping a workout made me wildly upset. The negativity would sink in. I would almost argue with myself over it. I would make damn sure I didn’t have a cookie, bowl of ice cream, or any “off limits” food. Why? Because I thought I didn’t deserve them. How sick and twisted is that thought process?
Now I know better. Now I run when I want to run. I rest when I want to rest. I’m at peace with either decision. There is no pressure. Do I still have bad days? Of course. But I’ve made so much progress. I’ve relaxed a lot when it comes to my workouts and I’m a happier, healthier person because of that.
If you didn’t run today, it’s okay. You’re still a runner. If you did run today, that’s awesome, too. The most important thing we can do (each and every day!) is be kind to ourselves and support each other.
