Y’all ready to be schooled in the art of modeling?
Just kidding. I’m talking fitness role models here. I think, especially in these media-driven days, that it’s important to be a positive influence on those around you when it comes to fitness. People are being bombarded with what it takes to be strong, fit, healthy, etc. It really is getting hard to sort fact from fiction. Children end up looking to those around them for inspiration and truth. Unfortunately, they aren’t always learning the right things.
It really couldn’t be simpler to be a positive role model to them, though. Play outside. Eat colorful meals. Have fun.
We are incredibly lucky to have a son who is obsessed with going outside. He begs at the door to be let out. Which, now that I think about it, might mean he hangs out with our family’s dogs too much. Anyway, the kid likes fresh air, sunshine, and grass. He literally does not stop moving when we’re outdoors.
We have a harder time getting him up and moving inside the house. I think that’s pretty typical for a lot of kids. Toys get boring. TV is tempting. The couch is way too comfortable. Enter Adventure to Fitness, an award-winning educational fitness program.
It is basically an online collection of extremely well-planned and safe workout videos for kids. The best part about it, though, is that you children would never guess that. To them, it just seems like an insane amount of fun. The episodes are set up like mini-adventures and they have to complete moves to be successful. I promise you they’ll get so wrapped up in the excitement that they forget they are working so hard.
I’ve used the program in my classroom, and my students love it. When we have rainy days at school, we watch these instead of going to recess. They actually ask for “recess videos” now because they’re so much fun. They only have PE once every 6 school days, so they need time to be active.
The Adventure to Fitness site also has games, recipes, and other fun stuff to keep y’all occupied on days you are stuck indoors. As a mom and teacher, I am psyched that things like this exist. The best part about this post is that they are willing to give y’all access to the program as well! Two readers will each win a 6 month membership to Adventure to Fitness.
The giveaway is open to readers in US and Canada. It will end at midnight on March 26th, and a winner will be posted shortly thereafter. Good luck! The winners are seriously going to be in awe of just how great these videos are.
Now I better go and get my workout in for the night. I’m definitely getting back on track now. Tonight is lower body + abs day, so if you don’t hear from me tomorrow then you’ll know why. Leg day is beautiful torture, am I right?
