I was so busy sharing the exciting “glamping” news with you yesterday, that I forgot to mention that we are headed on a last-minute beach trip today. Earlier this week, we decided that Maddux needed to see some sand. Anything for the kid, right? 😉
We are hopping in the car right after work, so I won’t have much time to post or check in. I thought I would share my beach must-haves instead.
1. A ginormous, sturdy beach bag.
I carry a lot of junk down to the beach these days. Even just the snacks for three people add up quickly. The main things I look for are the ability to “match” more than one bathing suit, big enough to hold everything I own, and strong enough handles to not snap half way down the beach. I really love the look of this beach tote, and it seems like the perfect size and color.
2. A fun, detailed bikini top.
I’ve been searching for the perfect top this year. Yes, just top. I mix and match my bathing suits sometimes, so I have plenty of sold bottoms to go with things. I just don’t have a cute top to go with them! I found this ladder back bikini top online, but it wouldn’t ship until May. C’mon Victoria’s Secret, help me out here. I found some similar options at Target, but none of them were as cute as that one. Bummer.
3. A pair of flattering sunglasses.
I was recently gifted these sunglasses, and I am obsessed. It’s hard to find a pair that look good on my face, I swear. Anyone else with me on that? Oh, and if these don’t actually look nice, please don’t tell me. Ignorance is bliss when it comes to stuff like that. But, yeah, sunglasses at the beach are a must. Obviously. The only problem is that Maddux always tries to rip them off my face. Maybe he’s trying to tell me something…
4. A small bluetooth speaker.
We love listening to music on the beach, but our phones just aren’t loud enough. A little speaker is the perfect way to amp it up a little. The one I own is not near as cute as this pink one, though, so I might need to do something about that. Now my plain black speaker just seems so, well, plain. At least it plays music. I guess that’s the point.
5. A tube of pretty SPF for your lips.
Have you ever burnt your lips? Y’all. It might be the worst thing ever. A bonus to protecting your pout, is that this lip treatment also looks and feels amazing. I received a sample a long time ago from Sephora and have been hooked ever sense. It really is the best. It’s like freakin’ butter.
6. A pair of my favorite flip flops.
I don’t care if I’m stuck in high school, I am ride or die Rainbow flip flops for life. My favorite are the skinny strap ones. Luckily for me, these things last forever. Unless you own dogs. I’m just saying. They must taste delicious because I’ve had several pair meet that unfortunate fate. Anyway, yeah, I love these.
7. A can of dry oil with SPF.
Here we go, another high school favorite. Dry oil is like my dream come true. I love the way tanning oil looks and feels but, man, it attracts literally every grain of sand within a one mile radius. Dry oil is much, much less disgusting but still makes me feel shiny and stuff. Grab and bottle with some SPF and you’re good to go.
8. A small container of baby powder.
I’m not insane, I swear. When you have a kid, sand gets everywhere. Rinsing off works for a minute or two, but you are bound to touch sand again before you get back to the room or the car. Baby powder is magic. You just dump some on your sandy parts and rub until the moisture is gone. The sand just falls off. Trust me.
I bet a few of you are wondering where my towel and book are, right? Well, with Maddux around, you don’t sit down and you certainly don’t read. This kid is a tiny tornado. Last year, he ran up and down the beach non-stop. I’m assuming this year will be extremely similar, and I cannot wait to see it!
One more thing… As I was typing all of this, I realized that the only true essential is the group of people you get to spend time with. I’m lucky to be able to take Maddux to the beach this weekend. All the stuff we’re draggin’ down there is just a bonus. Bring on the sunshine and family time!
Question: What things top your list of beach essentials? Anything I totally missed?
