Friday Favorites: Life Hacks

Happy Friday! Maddux went to bed normally without a paci last night, so we’re going to be doing some legit celebrating this weekend. Now it’s just time to get our life back on track. Be prepared for some posts on new workouts, NASM studying, and training for my upcoming half. I’m pretty excited about it all, so I’m sure I’ll bore you to death with details you don’t even care about. I’m good at that. For today, though, let me fill you in on some “life hacks” I’ve been using to help make my life a little better/easier. It’s like cheating, only you don’t get in trouble for it.

For Secretly Sleeping In

This hair trick blew my mind, and all you need is a simple stretchy headband. Oh, and the need to sleep for a little bit longer. So, like, me every single day. I wrapped my hair up in a headband similar to these and went from straight, dirty hair to curly, dirty hair. Hey, whatever works.

For An Excuse To Eat Brownies

Who doesn’t want an excuse to eat brownies in the morning? If it’s in the shape of a waffle, it’s breakfast. It’s pretty simple to do, since you just pour brownie batter in your waffle maker. Brain busting stuff here on Run Pretty, eh?

For Keeping Your Shower Clean

We have this tendency to let the scum on the shower door get out of control. Gross? Absolutely. Now we have a squeegee in the shower, so we have no excuse. Nothing can build up on there if you give it the ol’ once over every day.

For Helping You Look Alive

Remember when I said I was getting to try the Regenerist line from Olay for a campaign? Well, I like them a lot. I use them twice a day now and it’s nice to actually have a skincare routine.

According to Olay, the Regenerist Luminous collection claims to “reveal beautiful, luminous skin and create a more vibrant, youthful appearance. The products work layer by layer on the skin’s surface and deep within to help reenergize skin, banish dark shadows, and reveal a more luminous skin tone. The result is beautifully smooth, sleek, pearlescent skin with a radiant, healthy glow. It’s an ideal choice for anyone who is concerned with dull, uneven skin and desires a more vibrant, healthy, and youthful appearance.”

The routine works best if you do these three steps each morning and evening:

  • Step 1: CLEANSE with Olay Regenerist Luminous Brightening Cream Cleanser

  • Step 2: MOISTURIZE with Olay Regenerist Luminous Tone Perfecting Cream

  • Step 3: TREAT with Olay Regenerist Luminous Dark Circle Correcting Hydraswirl

I haven’t noticed a big change in overall “brightness”, but maybe that’s because I don’t really know what that means. I’m not a light bulb, you know. I have, however, seen a huge improvement in overall moisture and in my terrible under-eye circles. My skin feels better and I look less dead. I call that a win.

I think the biggest draw of this skincare line, though, is the affordability and accessibility, since each of these products can be purchased at your local Walmart or buy on

Question: Do y’all have any life hacks you’re currently using? I love reading those long lists of them. I feel dumb when I realize I should have thought of them myself, but whatever. Bring ‘em on!

I’m the worst about using crappy body soap as face wash. And I wonder why I don’t like my skin, haha.

I’m finally getting to a point where I’m putting effort into my appearance again, haha almost two years later…

OMG, thank you for saying that thing about the shower, because I JUST cleaned our yesterday. But, when I say clean, I mean it’s way past recovery, so now cleaning is getting to what I like to call ‘still looking sad and ugly.’ I was actually thinking about how if we had a squeegee from the get go, then we would have never had this issue. Go figure.

Love the hair trick too. I need either a face transplant or just a complete makeover. I look like darth vader’s ugly sister who’s a cross-breed with a raccoon. Ok, or at least that’s what I feel I look like right now!
