Remember when I said I was going to attempt a “test” run this weekend? Yeah, about that.
My half marathon is 6 days away. Six days away. I haven’t run in forever. Okay, so it’s been about a week. At this point, I’m 99% sure I’m dealing with tendonitis. Originally, the symptoms pointed to either that or a stress fracture. I guess I’ve ended up with the better of the two, right? So, I mean, that’s a positive of the situation.
When it comes to training, my game plan is pretty much that I have no real game plan. Well, that’s not entirely true. I haven’t done any cardio all week, so I’ll probably hop on the bike at the gym once or twice before Saturday. I doubt I’ll run at all before then. If my foot feels okay on race day, I’m going to run. If it doesn’t, I won’t. Yeah, I know. Nothing very mind-blowing about the plan I’ve devised. “Play it by ear” isn’t really a novel idea, ya know? Anyway, I’m a little bummed that this was the first race I was really going to put 100% effort into… and then I get sick twice and hurt my foot at the very end. It’s like even when my mind finally jumps on board, my body wants to put me in my place.
And because I always make sense, I wore my workout clothes all day today with no real intentions of working out.
I had a photographer friend snap some pictures of me for a little contest I was asked to enter, so I got real awkward in front of a million people I know. Why does that always happen? Why does everyone you’ve ever met walk past when you feel wildly uncomfortable? Life, you’re a trip.
Prior to the pictures, I made sure to carbo-load. That’s what you do for athletic posing, isn’t it? Hey, any excuse for Costco pizza.
Then after my pretend workout session, we stopped for family Frappucinos. I take fueling very seriously. Even when I don’t actually work out. It’s a lifestyle, really.
In summary, I ate and dressed like I was going to run but just posed in random athletic stances all day. Perfect day? I think so. Which is good, for tomorrow we bike! I love being dramatic.
Question 1: Anyone dealt with tendonitis this soon before a race? If so, WHAT HAPPENED? Detailed responses, please. 😉
Question 2: What’s better, Costco pizza or Costco pizza? Exactly.
