I know this seems like it gets pounded into your head all the time, but proper hydration is essential. For everything. When you hydrate your body, your muscles perform better, you have more energy to build said muscles, your skin looks healthier, and your kidneys and heart love you more. The benefits go on and on.
All that being said, I have a confession to make. I sometimes do a terrible job of remembering to drink up. I feel like I’m busy, busy, busy all day. I’m learning that I need to make sippin’ on the good stuff a priority. And, no, I’m not talkin’ about wine here.
I need more water up in my life. It’s one of the most simple ways to healthify your day. Healthify is word, right? Here are a few of the tips I’m trying to keep in mind:
1. Don’t Wait Until You’re Thirsty
If you’re thirsty, you are already dehydrated. Staying hydrated is all about being proactive. Do what works for you to help you remember. Sticky notes on your desks, alarms on your phones, or tattoos might helps. Seriously, though, how awesome would a tattoo of a glass of water saying “drink me” be? 😉
2. Do Keep It Accessible
Keep a cup or bottle with you at all times. Bonus points if it’s cute. When it’s empty, fill it up. If the water is there, you’ll drink it. Simple as that. I love my Tervis Tumblers something fierce.
3. Don’t Follow the Old Rules
The old rule was to drink 8 eight-ounce glasses of water a day. Well, that’s all fine and dandy except it doesn’t take individual needs into consideration. Weight and activity level vary from person to person, and so should water intake. Now, there are several different ways to decide how much water you should be drinking. There are even apps for your phone (some of which even help you track your intake). You can also just Google “water intake calculator” and you’ll find several calculations to use!
4. Do Switch it Up
Swap tea, sodas, or juice for water at your meals. An easy way to stay hydrated is to replace all other liquids with water. (Except for coffee. Because I need that. Admitting you have a problem is the first step.)
5. Don’t Let it be Boring
Here is where Dasani Drops come in very handy. I just mentioned that you should be drinking water in the place of other drinks. Well, frankly, that can get boring. Dasani Drops come in four delicious flavors: Pink Lemonade, Mixed Berry, Strawberry Kiwi, and Pineapple Coconut. Yup, your water just got an upgrade. As with most things in life, I believe these should be used in moderation. They’re really great treats, though. 🙂
By simply flipping the cap and squeezing a bit into your glass, you can create a totally flavor-enhanced drinking experience. They are customizable (use as little or as much as you want), convenient (totally easy to toss in your bag), and zero calories (helping you pack in the flavor without packing on the pounds). Another plus? There are 32 8-ounce servings in each small container. Very budget friendly, if I do say so myself. To learn more about Dasani Drops, check them out on Facebook and Twitter.
They really do feel like you are having a treat when you use them. It’s a nice change of pace from your average glass of water. Occasionally, when I get a glass of water now, I grab a flavor from my little “hydration station” by the fridge. This has helped my water consumption immensely! The Pineapple Coconut is by far my favorite. It tastes like liquid vacation.
The smart folks behind Dasani Drops want YOU to be able to taste this flavor explosion as well. They are going to hook one Run Pretty reader up with some coupons for Dasani Drops and Dasani water. Oh, and a bike. No big deal.
Yeah, you read that correctly. One of y’all will be winning a BIKE. How awesome is that?! You will have your choice between the mountain bike and the cruiser. Pretty freaking sweet. Dasani is all about promoting a healthy lifestyle, so this is a very fitting giveaway. Biking is a great low-impact workout! Just remember to take some Dasani Drops along for the ride. 🙂
