(…because it’s more fun to call myself MacGyver than MacLazypants.)
But seriously, I’ve all but ditched my plan this week. I’d like to blame everything and everyone besides myself, but sometimes things just don’t go according to plan. And that’s okay. That’s life.
I’m currently on Week 3. So far, the actual week has gone a little something like this: Monday – No miles, Tuesday – 1 mile, and Wednesday – No Miles. However, I’m not totally throwing in the towel this week. I will salvage it, I swear. The problems all started Monday. I was off of work, so I got to spend the day with Maddux. At first, it went swimmingly.
Then I decided to take him to Target to buy some of his Christmas presents. That went relatively smoothly. We came home, he napped, and all was right with the world. When he got up, we headed to the mall to buy my Guitar Pull (a local concert) outfit for next week.
Anyway, he completely freaked out on me at the mall. I haven’t really ever dealt with that before. I know, I’m lucky. I think the terrible twos have arrived early, though. Does that happen? If so, that sucks. I was practically sweating when we made it out to the car. Wrestling a toddler is serious business. I feel so bad that I pushed the limits of his shopping patience that day. It was my fault, for real. I hate those “DUH” parenting moments.
That night, he didn’t go to sleep well either. I usually run on the treadmill after he falls asleep, but that didn’t happen. The two miles were pushed back to Tuesday.
Tuesday’s workout got off to a great start. Ryne and I worked out together, which was awesome. We did back and biceps, and I even practiced my unassisted pull-ups like a boss. Okay, I got one. Whatever. Still counts. In other news, this is the most unflattering way to photograph your legs, in case you were wondering.
Then I hopped on the treadmill to get my two miles in from Monday. The wind had been howling for a while, and I guess it finally did some damage outside. The power went out a mile into my run. I could have punched myself in the face. I don’t know why I would do that, but you get my point.
Today was pretty much shot to hell the moment I woke up. I’ve had a headache all day. Plus I had to walk around all day with mashed banana all over my white sweater. I have got to remember to check my clothes before walking out of the door. I thought I was going to be sick at one point this afternoon. From the headache, not the banana. Thankfully, I kept it together. It’s 8pm right now and I think it’s finally fading away. Crossing my fingers. So yeah. I blew another run.
All is not lost, however, because I’m thinking of doing the 5 miles of speedwork tomorrow. Then two miles Friday. Then my usually long run on Saturday. If all that happens, I’ll only end up at a mile deficit for the week. Pretty solid, all things considered. And if I don’t get those runs in? Well, I’ll still survive, won’t I? 😉
I just realized I went into way too much detail about my lack of running this week. Embarrassing. Oh, but I do have a quick question for y’all. I’m working on buying more “whole” (whatever that means), organic foods for my family. I’m still using regular old white, frozen biscuits. Because they are fluffy and delicious. I had two for dinner yesterday because they’re so freaking good.
I’d love to find ones that are whole wheat, organic-ish, or at least slightly better than the ones I use. Does that even exist? I really just want better for Maddux, ya know? Am I the only one who has different standards based on who is eating the food? I will practically eat anything, but I want to set my kid up with the best of the best. Maybe I’m just weird.
HAVE A FANTASTIC HUMP DAY, Y’ALL. I swear I will stop using hump day references. Eventually.
