Hey y’all! I didn’t post yesterday because we were too busy partying it up for Maddux’s first birthday! Today, I really need to clean up the house, so I’ll try to keep this short and sweet.
We chose a golf theme for M’s party. Doesn’t he look like the most dapper young gentleman? We took this photo about a month ago in order for me to have time to make his invitations. I swear he’s already changed so much in the last month!
The final product. Blurred out the address for safety, yo.
The only official party game we had was a “Guess the Number of Tees” game. The winner got a golf-themed scratch off. They didn’t win the jackpot, so I’m pretty bummed about that.
Of course I went the cheesy route for the food. Golf theme overload. We had “Fruit Slices”, “Cup Cakes”, “Par-mento Cheese Sandwiches”, “Chip Shots”, “Bogie-Q Sandwiches”, and “Sweet Tee”.
We also had beer (duh, it’s a kid’s party), a few crazy-looking green children’s drinks, and lemonade. Check out Ryne’s Koozie placement. Classy. The golf bags below were favors for the kids in attendance. Maddux tore into his golf bag way before the party started. He’s pretty wild.
Oh, and here’s a random shot of the overpriced balloons I put in the hallway. For no reason. Whatever works. Seriously, I laugh at myself over this party. I know he wouldn’t care either way, but I felt the need to act like this was his wedding.
I also spent hours creating a slideshow to play during the party. I used the golf theme on Smilebox and played the Masters theme music with it, because I wanted to see if I could actually tip the scales of corniness. I swear people were crying. That music is emotional, okay? This is the one thing that I do not think I wasted any time on. It took a while to make, but it ended up being amazing! I plan to play a slideshow every year now.
“Hey, Ryne, look this way and try not to be awk…” “Nevermind.”
The slideshow took about ten years, by the way. I had time to take a million pictures while people watched. I hope only one or two of them actually fell asleep (even the streamers have had enough at this point… they’re already sagging down).
Finally, I let everyone get up and eat!
A few party animals just wanted to play, though. PS: the banner behind the couch was made by yours truly on Photoshop along with the invitations and food signs. So much cheaper than purchasing them!
He took about a .02 second break from playing to eat a few bites of food.
Then Maddux opened his presents and read each card aloud.
He showed of his new whip, too.
“What do they call this? A smash cake? Okay then…”
Even though Maddux actually barely made a mess with his cake, we still opted for an outfit change. He is so fabulous. I can’t even stand it. I bought this little gem on Etsy.
And just like that, his first birthday party is in the books! He partied hard and had a blast. We are so lucky to have such great friends and family. They spoil this kid rotten, and I’m sure he wouldn’t have it any other way. 😉
Question: What do you think his second birthday party theme should be? What, too soon? Fine.
