Happy Tuesday! I’m currently laying in bed after not working out today. I’m still resting my foot after this weekend’s half. It held up during the race, but I am totally paying for running now. I’m going to slowly ease back into running, but I’m excited to amp up my weightlifting routine. I’m about to Hulk out on y’all. You know, if the Hulk was more like a baby horse learning how to use its limbs for the first time. Same thing. I thought I would be bummed about having to stay off of my feet again for a few days, but it’s really not all that bad. When you work out for your health, the breaks aren’t as big of a deal. They’re actually kind of nice.
Anyway, I figured today was as good as any to recap our little race-cation. We drove into Amelia Island on Friday afternoon and headed straight to the Ritz Carlton. The ZOOMA host hotel is definitely pricy, but it’s worth it for the easy access to all the race events. I wanted to move in, but I’d have to sell a kidney or 3 to afford even one more night there.
After checking in, we headed down to the expo. We grabbed our bibs and browsed the items for sell before hightailing it to dinner.
We ended up just eating at the Ritz in a bar (lounge?) called Eight. We wanted comfort food and we wanted it fast. The boys played pool while we waited for our meals.
Apparently I like to break every race fueling rule there is, because I ordered leafy vegetables and spicy food. If I’m anything in life, it’s a risk taker. Nachos are worth it, am I right?
After dinner, we relaxed by the fire outside with our alcoholic beverages of choice. I sipped on a glass of champagne and did a little stargazing. In other news, I think I should be rich and unemployed because I’m really good at relaxing and doing nothing.
The next morning I woke up, drank coffee, and scarfed down two fig bars. I chugged Cytomax during the race to keep myself from stopping to grab breakfast around mile 9. When we got to the after-party, I was ready to eat my headband.
Luckily, ZOOMA provided snacks for us, so I left with all of the apparel I started with. I grabbed a banana and water at the finish line, but I was on the hunt for more. Pasta salad, a pita with hummus, and a chewy caramel cookie were the most beautiful things I’d ever seen at that point. Reminder to my future self: Barefoot Bubbly in the berry flavor is ridiculous. Buy that.
We took showers and I hopped straight into my compression socks. Who else hates feet pictures? I have no idea why I’m sharing this with you.
After we packed our bags, we drove a short way to The Surf in Fernandina Beach for lunch. They had indoor/outdoor seating with space heaters. Genius. I’m going to pretend that my hair was sticking up because it was windy, but that is a complete lie. Ryne never tells me when I look like a freak.
I feel like if I designed a menu, it would look like this.
Shrimp, blue cheese, and fries are seriously one of my favorite meals. Never gets old. Also, I drank my body weight in tartar sauce. Because it’s delicious.
After lunch, got right back in the car and drove up to Savannah, GA for the second portion of our weekend getaway. My legs hated sitting in the car again, but it ended up being so worth the trip. I’ll recap that tomorrow since I’ve bored y’all enough for today. I know a lot of people hate the “daily life” stuff, but I honestly forget what I do on vacation if I don’t blog about it! Which reminds me of an awesome TED talk on memory, but that’s a post for another day. 🙂 Hope y’all have a great night!
