Yesterday Ryne and I took advantage of a babysitting offer and headed into St. Augustine to hit up the outlets, eat lunch, and walk around downtown. We successfully completing all three, even though it poured down rain the majority of the time. Gotta make it!
I was hesitant about this dress from the Banana Republic Outlet, but I grabbed it along with a few other work appropriate outfits. Back to school shopping for grown-ups!
What sucked the most about the day was that it was warm, sunny, and beautiful while we were shopping. The minute we headed downtown, the sky opened up on us. I was as unprepared as usual and didn’t have an umbrella. We stopped early for lunch and basically sprinted into The Floridian.
Oh, you have a bar? Peeeerfect. You can’t order alcohol at the table, so I walked over into the bar and grabbed us a few beers.
An Orange Blossom Pilsner for me and a Key West for him.
I don’t know if it was the beer, but these little cuties spoke to me. Loved ’em. Every table had a different pair of old shakers.
As we were checking out the menu, we spotted the fish of the day. Mahi! That helped Ryne make his decision almost instantly.
But first, we had to tear up some fried pickles. To be perfectly honest, I’ve had better. The two dips, though, were amazing. On the left was buttermilk herb dressing and on the right was house-made pimento cheese. Definitely made up for the lackluster dills.
Ryne’s entree was freaking enormous. You can’t really tell because of my crappy photography skills, but that was a giant slab o’ fish. He got the Spicy Melt with fresh Mahi. He said it was one of the best sandwiches he’s ever had. On top of the fish was datil-chipotle mayo, roasted bell peppers, tomato, fresh spinach, and multiple cheeses from what we think was a local dairy.
I ordered the Not-So-Mac and Cheese with Blackened Shrimp. The bowl was full of shrimp, farro, vegetables, cheese, and a dijon cream sauce. It was all topped with an heirloom tomato and bell pepper salsa. I was a fan. That being said, I think I’d eat anything covered in cheese and cream sauce. Gimme the dairy!
When we left the restaurant, it looked that the town flooded in a matter of minutes.
Then, it all quickly receded. Craziness.
After walking around a bit, we had room for some dessert. The popcorn samples loured me in. Check out all these flavors!
Oh, that’s not all, ladies and gents.
I left with a “small” bag of Sea Salt Caramel. OMG. Seriously, I don’t even know what else to say about it. I don’t know why my tongue is trying to escape my mouth in that picture, but I’m assuming it’s to dive into the bag.
As if we hadn’t just eaten a crap-ton of sugar, we stopped for banana bread beers. De-freaking-licious. By the way, I’m counting walking around as my exercise today. That completely negates all of the beer and sugar I ate, right?
We also stopped at a little wine store and tried lime, banana, and strawberry wines. We ended up buying the strawberry wine along with the mixer that you use to make wine slushies. I have a feeling those will be happening soon.
When we got back from St. Augustine, Ryne drove and picked up pizza for us. If you don’t eat pizza on vacation, you’re not really on vacation. 😉
This morning, I had the extreme honor of accompanying Ryne to a bait and tackle shop before breakfast. Smelled heavenly. Yuck.
It rained off and on all day today, but I managed to go outside for a little bit. Luckily for me, Maddux’s nap lined up perfectly with a brief period of sunshine. Oh, hey, cheesy knees-at-the-beach picture. Never seen one of you before…
Maddux woke up to more rain. Poor kid.
We’re about to feast on some crab legs at the beach house, so I better go before Ryne dominates them. It gets pretty feisty when people place shellfish between us.
In other news, tomorrow is Friday! This week has flown by. Hope y’all are enjoying your week, too!
