Hi from Disney World! We got in really late last night, but this morning we accomplished riding every “important” ride for a three-year-old. We rock for that. But today isn’t just a regular old vacation day; it’s also the 12 week mark for this second little person we’re growing. I guess we have a lot more Disney trips to look forward to in the future. Can’t have the second one feeling left out now can we? This is like my dream come true, y’all. Permanent excuse to visit the mouse.
Anyway, back to the baby. He or she is definitely growing. Please don’t remind me how small it actually is at this point because my belly begs to differ. It’s hard to tell in this dress, but the bump is back and in full force. PS: 10 dollar skater dresses from H&M + cheap sports bras are my new go-to. Try it and thank me later. It’s like getting away with wearing pajamas in public.
What’s baby up to? According to Popsugar, the baby “is now about the length of an apricot. He continues to develop his brain, muscles and nervous system. He can frown as well as open and close his mouth. His vocal cords start to function and your baby can make a fist; his fingernails are even well formed. His liver is functioning and his pancreas is producing insulin. He’s starting to respond to outside stimuli (such as sounds and movement). If you haven’t started talking to your baby, now’s the time. You may feel a little silly, but he’ll love it, and it’s a great way to build your bond.” So, clearly, I’m also having a boy. Right? Kidding. I have no idea yet. But I do like the idea of randomly talking to my stomach as I walk around in crowds. That could be fun.
Weeks: 12 weeks
Total Weight Gain: I’m up 6 pounds up, so far! I gained 40 pounds (yes, forty) the first go-round, so I’m trying to remember it does go away eventually. No stressing. I do think it’s hilarious how much faster I am showing this time, though!
Fitness: Besides getting bigger every day, I’m starting to feel like I’m getting back to normal. I’m hoping that I just hit the second trimester bliss a little early! I think I’ll be able to resume my normal workouts pretty soon. I had been running and taking barre classes, but I’ve skipped the past two or so weeks. I miss it!
Symptoms: Up until this week, it’s primarily been nausea and headaches. I started monitoring my protein intake and it’s gotten a lot better! Shout out to my coworkers for forcing me to work on that. Apparently, I turn into a cranky weirdo without it.
Sleep: I get up 2-3 times a night, which is crazy to me. I don’t remember it being this ridiculous last time. I have been chugging water lately, so I guess it’s my own doing.
Cravings: Every single morning I eat an egg & cheese burrito with salsa. Other than that, I’ve been digging tomato & mayo sandwiches with salt and pepper and all of the potato chips. The only sad thing is that I’m struggling to drink regular old hot coffee. The smell. Oh, gosh, the smell.
Maternity Clothes: I’m totally already wearing maternity bottoms, and I have been for weeks. They are just so much more comfortable. Let’s be honest, all jeans should have elastic waistbands. I think I’ll start a petition.
Baby Items Bought/Received: Nothing! The game plan is to reuse as much as possible from last time. The only issue will be if this one is a girl. If that happens, I will probably go nuts and buy every single thing in sight.
Goals: My current goal is to not complain about the heat while walking around at Disney all day. Dole Whip will help ease the sting, right? I’m only half kidding.
Worries: Not too much right now, which is probably because I’m always preoccupied with something else. They are not lying when they say that the second pregnancy is different! I don’t have oodles of time to sit around thinking about my belly.
Best Moment: Maddux definitely understands that I am pregnant. The other day, we were running around and I told him I needed to sit down because I didn’t feel good. He asked, “Oh, is the baby gonna frow up now? That’s not good.” While he was a little confused on who was sick, I was glad he was slightly concerned. Maybe he won’t try to wrestle the baby at birth after all! One can only hope.
