Happy Monday! I usually say that with a touch of sarcasm, but I really mean it today. This morning, instead of rushing around, I slowed down and made myself breakfast. I made eggs in the skillet and not in the microwave for once. Shocking.
In all honesty, this week could have started off a lot differently. Mondays for me are typically the guiltiest day of the week. 9 times out of 10, I feel like I haven’t accomplished enough over the weekend. “I didn’t get the house clean enough.” “I didn’t get enough work done.” “I didn’t work out enough.” The last one is usually the worst. Take this weekend for example. I know I should have gotten a long run in, but I just flat out didn’t do it. In fact, I haven’t worked out at all since last Tuesday. I did important things like take pre-wedding crazy-eyed selfies instead.
Normally, I’d be pretty annoyed with myself for such a lack of effort, especially since I have three races coming up. I’m choosing to look at it in a different light, though. When it comes to life, there are bigger things to worry about. Working out is just one slice of the pie, you know?
I know. I couldn’t resist making a ridiculous pie chart. I live for visual aids. Also, I wish I could actually hang out 50% of the time and focus 40% of my time on cooking and eating food. I guess my real life would look a little more like this, but whatever.
On my death bed (hiii, it’s getting morbid in here), do you really think my one regret will be skipping a week or three of workouts. Let’s be real. Of course it wouldn’t. Yesterday, instead of running during Maddux’s nap time, I hung out with my buds. We let him stay up a little longer to eat pizza and watch a movie in bed. Then I took a nap, too. I never take naps, so I swear I legitimately must have needed it. It’s a fact.
Anyway, the only reason I’m even mentioning all of this is because of the following word: PERSPECTIVE. I’ve mentioned before that sometimes people might need a break from social media altogether. Fitness is important, but it shouldn’t consume your every waking thought. If you find yourself stressing over something as insignificant as a mile or two, take some time to figure out why. You might just need a break. Maybe you need to log off of the internet or put away the magazines. Sometimes you just need to find something else to put your energy into for a while. It’s cool. There are all sorts of things to do in this world. Here’s another key word: BALANCE. Find some. You’ll thank me later. I know it’s always a good lesson for me to re-learn. 😉
Question: In your dream life, what would the biggest slice of your pie be? I’d choose family vacations. Hands down.
