I was going to post last night when I got home from the gym, but Ryne commandeered the laptop to watch the Herschel Walker ESPN 30 for 30 episode on YouTube. Important stuff. I’d like to go ahead and start a petition entitled “Buy Presley Her Own Computer”. I need about three million signatures before I turn 26 in April. I absolutely think we can manage that.
Back to the gym. I ran 3.5 miles before I almost drowned in my own sweat. I was fine until I decided to run sprints for the last 1.5 miles. I love running, but by the looks of me, running doesn’t love me back.
Not that it matters much, because I’m a stage five clinger. I’ll never give up on running. Especially since I just decided to train for a non-existent race. You read that right. The girl who hates training for things is training for nothing. Makes total sense, right? Well, now that my foot has healed up, I want to make sure I slowly ease back into longer runs. I don’t want to repeat history, ya know? I feel like following a structured plan will help facilitate that, since I am incapable of making good decisions on my own.
I had a lot of success on my last half after using a Runner’s World Smart Coach plan, so I’ve decided to use the plan builder again to train for a pretend 5k. It will make sure I’m still incorporating a little speed work while building up my mileage a little at a time. I think the plan tops out at a long run of 10 miles, which is awesome. I never plan to run much further than that “for fun” anyway.
If I end up running a 5k soon, that’s great. If not, no sweat. That’s a lie, there will be a ton of sweat. But you get the point.
Tonight there wasn’t a run on the agenda, but I still wanted to incorporate some cardio into my day. I decided to just do a bunch of burpees, squat jumps, and other
forms of torture bodyweight moves in my pajamas. I’m serious. In my polka dot PJs. I keep it real.
I didn’t really have time for an official workout tonight because Maddux stayed up later than usual. I typically wait until he goes to bed to work out and tonight that didn’t really pan out. Planning anything around when a child is going to actually fall asleep is like playing Russian roulette, ya know? Now it’s my turn to crash. See y’all tomorrow.
Question 1: Have you ever trained “for nothing”? It’s kind of fun to train knowing there’s no pressure to perform at the end.
Question 2: What’s your favorite non-running cardio workout? Spin kills me, I hate the elliptical, and I can’t follow along to choreographed dancing. That rules out a lot.
