Weekend Recap: 9 Miles and Penguin Stalking

This weekend was the busiest one we’ve had in a while. I don’t know why we decided to cram a million things in, but it sounded like a good idea at the time. Saturday morning, Maddux and I made a quick trip to Starbucks. I shared the veggie sandwich with him. It was severely lacking in the veggie department, though. I’m still confused by that.

This is Maddux pretending to be me before I’ve had my coffee.

Merry Christmas? I think they should make Thanksgiving cups. Just saying. early christmas

After breakfast, Maddux went down for a crazy early nap and I went for a crazy boring run. Nine miles by yourself after running eight with someone else? Not as fun. It was, however, the first time I was able to run in “sleeves”. It’s finally cooling down around here.

The exciting moment in my run came when I realized I was flying. I looked down and saw a 6 minute pace. Then I realized I had it set to kilometers. Damn. So, I was going way slower than I thought and I was about to have to do math while running. Devastating news, in my mind. I probably way overcomplicated the math in my head, but I figured out that I would need to run about halfway between 14 and 15 kilometers. I used the 5k distance to figure that out. I’m pretty much Albert Einstein.

9 miles

I actually felt really good the entire time. After murdering my legs the night before, I’m shocked I didn’t cramp up and pass out on the street like a drunk. Every single run gets me that much more excited for ZOOMA. I’ve never been this jacked up so far before an actual race. I’m scared I’m going to burn out. Don’t let me do that.

After my run, we went to the ZOO! I convinced Ryne, my mom, and my dad to take me Maddux to see the animals. He was seriously in heaven. He has a slight obsession with birds right now, so this was right up his alley. Feelings were not mutual, though. Apparently birds don’t toddlers that much.

The single best moment of Maddux’s life was seeing the penguins. I’ve never seen him more mesmerized by something. I think we should get a pet penguin.

We tried taking pictures. It sort of worked.

We are already talking about going back to the zoo. He seemed like such a big kid while we were there. He’s basically a teenager now.

We took in the sights on the way home. I honestly have no idea…

When we got home, my aunt and my Memaw put Maddux to bed while Ryne and I went to dinner with some friends. I had buffalo shrimp, because that’s the only thing I ever eat anymore. Best thing on the planet.

Saturday was so nuts, that we took it pretty easy yesterday. We did venture out to go to my cousin Cole’s birthday party. Maddux found a cowboy hat and immediately turned into John Wayne. Toddler cowboy is not impressed.

We all crashed hard last night. I’m not working today, so I’m sure there are more adventures to be had. Speaking of having the day off, Happy Veteran’s Day! I’m so thankful that we have people in this country who fight for us every single day, aren’t you?

That looks like lots of fun! My best friends got married last summer and it was at the Mystic Aquarium in Mystic, CT. They were married in front of the beluga whales and paid extra to have an hour with two penguins during the cocktail hour. Being in the bridal party, we got to have private pictures with them and even PET them! They are SO soft…not what I expected at all.

I wish I could do Zooma again this year! I got a PR on that course last year. Such a fun race! Buuut, little did I know last year at Zooma I was actually pregnant. I just had my baby boy 5 weeks ago, but I’m hoping to do another Zooma race in the future. :)

I hope the rest of your training goes great!
