Weekend Recap: Pawleys Island

Happy Monday! I know I acted like our entire weekend was ruined by teething pain, but that’s not exactly what happened. We did actually enjoy ourselves before those daggum molars interrupted all the fun.

Friday morning I got a run in and then Ryne and I headed to work. When we got home, we literally jumped straight into the car and drove to Pawleys Island. For once, I’m using the word literally correctly. We were that excited to get down there. We grabbed some Chick fil-A, checked in to the hotel, and Maddux went absolutely nuts in the room. It was awesome.

Saturday morning, we woke up to this view. This kid would have hung out on the balcony all weekend if we let him. He liked to stare people down and point at them as they walked by, because he’s creepy like that.

After making breakfast in the room, we took a long walk around our hotel. We stayed at the Litchfield Beach and Golf resort. It’s like a really nice neighborhood. It has a Starbucks. We’ll totally be back.

Maddux found a pool. I didn’t have the heart to tell him he was wrong.

Finally, it was beach time. In other news, he’s auditioning for a role in the Risky Business remake. I swear this kid is too cool for everything.

“See the water isn’t that cold, baby.” – Said the lying, cruel mother.

I offered him M&Ms afterwards, so it’s no big deal.

We also tried the pool, but he clearly didn’t trust me after the ocean incident. He would not believe me that the submarine was awesome.

He went in for his dad, though. Hmmph.

To further pay me back, he passed out on the way to the outlet malls. I get it, kid, you hate me. I would have been mad, but he is the cutest thing in the world.

When sleeping beauty awoke, we went to dinner at Wicked Tuna in Murrell’s Inlet.

Ryne got boogers with fresh squeezed lemon to start.

I ordered a lobster roll, because I’m smart like that.

I also chose a special of the night: Seared Scallops with Cauliflower Mash. There are no words. I basically wanted to marry this meal.

Maddux had whipped cream for dessert. Yeah, just the whipped cream. Kid knows what’s up, obviously.

After dinner we hung out and enjoyed the view. We loved Wicket Tuna, and we’ll definitely be going back the next time we’re in town.

I’m really glad Maddux was still in a good mood at that point. The next morning, all bets were off. I was planning on getting a long run in while the boys played in the sand on Sunday, but we ended up just heading home. It was necessary. Trust me.

Oh, and if you’re wondering, that means my long run never happened this weekend. Hopefully I can get some kind of miles in tonight. Cross you fingers for me?

Question 1: While on vacation do you eat out or eat in more often? We usually head out for our meals, but this weekend we ate breakfast and lunch in the room. We had a full kitchen, so it was nice to not rush around trying to find food.

Question 2: Have you ever run a race totally unprepared? I mean, I’m totally just asking for a friend. You believe me, right?

  1. Love your bathing suits. To me, vacations are all about eating out. No need to mess with dishes and cooking when you are making it a point to relax. Right? :)

  2. I ran my first half marathon completely unprepared. I had good intentions, really I did…but life got in the way. Before I knew it, it was race day and I my longest run up until then had been 5 miles. Oops! It was painful…oh so painful. BUT I finished and I feel like that’s what counts, right?? It’s totally possible to run a race unprepared…but way more enjoyable to be prepared. ;p

  15. I think eating in on vacation is hard, but I lately have been opting for VRBO (or the like) options, as I prefer having the option to cook. But, I think one of the best parts of traveling and vacationing, is trying new restaurants.
