I took a blogging break. It started as just a few days, but I ended up laying low for a week. My Twitter and Instagram were left pretty dormant, too. It was nice to “get away” for a while. I thought that by taking a little time off, that I’d have more free time. Ha. Apparently, I don’t “waste” too much time blogging because I didn’t accomplish much more than usual. I guess I’m a crappy blogger. That’s pretty much what I’ve taken away from this experiment. On that note, I’m baaaaack. I know y’all breathed a huge sigh of relief when you didn’t hear from me. I hate to do this to you, but I’m sticking around for a while. Don’t hate me.
What’s life look like without the internet? Well, like I said before, just about the same as always. Let’s quickly recap my workouts, random thoughts, and events for posterity’s sake.
I ran sprints and called it a day. I sprinted a quarter mile then rested for 30 seconds for a total of four times. Only a mile, but I promise you it whooped my butt. I consider that a win.
I didn’t do much on the workout front, but I did some tricep dips and extensions plus a little bit of abs. I slacked off, but it was Ryne’s chest and tri day and I just wasn’t feeling it. Oh well. Can’t win ’em all.
Friday was a rest day, and we took full advantage of some free time. We took Maddux to Genghis Grill, but it ended up being a terrible idea. The food, drinks, and service were great. However, when I walked Maddux through the “build your own bowl” bar, he flipped out. I think he thought you could eat as you go. He was displeased to say the least. When his dinner finally came to the table, he calmed right down. But, man, it was rough for a second there. He takes food very seriously, so it’s in your best interest if you feed him as soon as he requests a meal.
Saturday was leg day. I was sore for days afterwards, so I guess it was a good one. I hadn’t done weighted squats in a while, and I could tell. Guess I need to get back on that, huh? Maddux practiced his squats and it was freaking adorable. I wish I had captured it on camera, but I do have one of him watching Ryne intensely from the hallway. Hey, we had to do what we had to do.
Later that day I got my redneck on. My parents had the grill going and the game playing so we headed over there. Their set up cracks me up. By the way, they actually have a beautiful covered back porch that my dad built by himself. They just haven’t finished the wall that the party goods are propped up against. I kinda dig it either way, though. PS: I hate pictures with feet in them so I find it odd that I would post them. I’m sorry if you’re, like, eating or something.
I didn’t work out Sunday because my legs were beat from squats. It’s official: I am out of shape.
We went shopping for a new rug, ate leftovers for lunch at my parents’ house, and then searched high and low for a coffee table. It was a bust. Then Ryne’s mom said we could have her end tables and coffee table from her previous scheme. Awesome. The only problem is that they are light wood and white while our couches are dark brown leather. Mix and match is totally in, right? Right…
Once again, the day got away from me. Notice a trend here? I spent hours shopping online for cute throw pillows. Yeah. In other words, I made every excuse in the book. I would like to add that I really didn’t think I could be so sucked in to browsing fabric swatches through the internet. I mean, really, who have I become? I swear to you I was once a very interesting and fun person. That’s probably what all old people say about their former selves, though, huh?
Back and bi day! For some reason, I’m really enjoying upper body workouts these days. I used to hate them, but apparently I go through workout phases like it’s my job. We did preacher curls, regular ol’ curls, and bent over rows. I did some abs, too, but they were more of an “omg let’s keep this momentum going” thing than anything else.
On the life front, I went to Wal-Mart. If nothing else, it always teaches me how not to behave or dress in public. That place is full of important life lessons, if you look closely. Or barely look at all, actually. Yesterday I learned how not to park.
Today I totally thought about running. 😉 Now I just need to make some adjustments to my schedule to actually fit it in once in a while. I seriously don’t know how people raise children, work, and still manage to keep up their hobbies. I know it’s all about priorities and managing your time well, but I totally haven’t figured it out. I’m doing good enough just squeezing random workouts in, ya know? Long runs are a distant memory. Maybe I’ll have some sort of epiphany and get my act together. Here’s to hoping. Today was pretty much shot for me mentally and physically after Maddux decided to wake up three hours early this morning. It was extremely fun and everything, but I would have rather been asleep. Alright, so I shouldn’t blame him. The fire alarm starting beeping to tell us to change the battery before 4 am. There was no coming back from that. We partied hard all morning. He went to bed again after I went to work, of course. He’s funny like that.
In other news, the word of the day in 4k is booty cheek. I guess that would be words of the day, but you get the point. I freaking love my job right now. To be honest, I was burnt out on teaching. After only a few years. That’s bad. However, I fit right in with the four-year-olds. They are my besties, for sure. They’ve also been making huge strides already, which makes me incredibly proud. Okay. Enough of the sappy stuff.
So, yeah. The past week wasn’t anything mind blowing or anything, but I still think it’s an improvement. I guess I set the bar pretty daggum low. I’m still getting my feet wet, so to speak. Pretty soon I’ll be lifting semi-trucks and running in the Olympics. Okay, fine. So maybe I’ll always have baby muscles and be a middle-of-the pack runner. That just makes me a bad ass because I never quit, don’t ya think? 😉
