Happy Wednesday! The only full day I have documented for WIAW is the day Ryne and I celebrated our one year wedding anniversary. We “officially” celebrated on Saturday, but our anniversary was actually Monday. Even though I’m off for the summer, I don’t think Ryne really wanted to party it up on a work night. Anyway, here is this week’s WIAW in all her glory! (I don’t know how well I did on the “sensible snacking” aspect of it this week, though. In the words of Dane Cook: “I did my best!”) Thanks again to Jenn for hosting. 🙂
SNACK # 1
…and a slice of cinnamon cream cheese bread. The man selling the bread asked if the baby wanted plain whole wheat. To which I responded: “give me the SUGAR now!” (I eat whole grain wheat at home, though, I swear. Pinky promise!)
Sometimes the best meals are just snack plates. I filled my little tasting plate with parents’ farmer’s market purchases of maters and Mediterranean bread. I would have been fine with just that, but the baby wanted protein. He wins. I had some hummus and shrimp, too. And more bread for the hummus, obviously. 😉
For dinner, Ryne and I went to Malia’s in Aiken. We’d never been before, so everything was new to us! I started out with one slice of the sweet bread and one slice of the savory. I’m not at all sure about the flavors, but I liked ’em… so that’s what counts.
“Mixed greens tossed with tomatoes, scallions, red cabbage, and Italian vinaigrette. Topped with shredded mozzarella.” I didn’t end up eating much of this salad. There was some herb or seasoning in it that I didn’t really like, so I took a few bites and moved on.
My entree was much better! “Fresh baby soybeans blended with toasted millet, grated fresh vegetables, ginger, garlic, chiles and lime. Pan fried as crispy cakes and served over green rice. Topped with ginger wasabi cream and pickled ginger.” I ate half and took the rest home. I needed to save room for dessert!
For dessert, we had red velvet cake. Ryne ordered a cake from the bakery that we used for the wedding. Our original top tier didn’t survive our move or my pregnancy-induced sweet tooth. What? Is that bad luck? Whoops! I don’t believe in being superstitious, but I do believe in cake. 🙂
And that was my Saturday. I can’t believe it’s already Wednesday! Hope y’all have a great one.
