This isn’t going to be a groundbreaking post (like any of mine are or anything…), but I just wanted to check in and explain why I’ve been absent lately.
Recently, I’ve been completely and utterly exhausted. I work full time, I spend time with Maddux, I try to keep the house clean, I try to get my workouts in, I try to blog every weekday, etc. I end up saying NO to things like going out to eat, hanging out with family and friends, or just going and running fun errands with Ryne. The fact that I think errands are fun should tell you a little bit about my social life right now. Some of this is coming from the exhaustion, some of it is being blamed on having other things I “have” to do, and some of it is because I’m afraid to be out of the house with Maddux in the evenings.
Well, I’m trying to work on that. Yesterday, we went to eat at my grandma’s. Yes, I know, not mind-blowingly exciting stuff, but we needed to get out of the house.
I’m officially declaring this YES-vember. I know the month is already half-way through, but it’s never too late to start something, I guess. For the rest of the month, I’m saying yes to the fun stuff. I’m going to do it even if it means putting off the other non-essential duties until later. I obviously can’t stop going to work, so that’s going to have to continue. Bummer. 😉 But things like straightening up the house and blogging can wait. As far as the exhaustion goes, getting out of the house usually ends up helping, so I don’t know why I don’t do it more often. Where Maddux’s sleep is concerned, I have got to stop living in fear. I’m always afraid that he will fall asleep while we are out and I’ll miss a chance to snooze, too. I also worry that we’ll somehow ruin the 1 or 2 hour stretches of sleep we do get later. Obviously, what we are doing isn’t working anyway, so I might as well enjoy my life, ya know? After all, a happy mom is a good mom. This little boy deserves the best!
So, for the rest of the month, I’m saying yes. The past few days I’ve been saying YES to relaxing in the evenings, but tonight I’ll be eating pizza and chatting with my fellow third-grade teachers. I cannot wait!
If you’ve been getting bogged down lately, you should join me in celebrating YES- vember! 🙂
